20 Students scored 100 percentile in CAT. Can you?

“If you thought scoring 100 percentile in CAT was impossible, it was proven wrong by not one or two but twenty candidates. “The highest number of candidates in six years, 20, scored the perfect 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2016 for entry into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top business schools”, reported Livemint.

Another interesting thing to note was the dominance of engineers in this ‘quant heavy’ test. All the top percentilers are men, and they are engineers.

“Yash Choudhary from Pune and Avidipto Chakraborty from Kolkata are two of the CAT 2016 100 percentilers. Yash is a final year B.Tech student of College of Engineering, Pune. Avidipto is a student of BITS Pilani, Goa campus,” reported careers360.com.

Adivipto in his interview with India Today mentioned, “Mock test and analysis is the key to my success. I gave two to three mock tests on a daily basis and in total, I gave 86 mock tests of different institutes like Times, Career launcher and other institutions.”

“I got inspiration from people who are scoring more than me, who are repeating the exams. My friends constant advice and guidance helped me a lot,” he said, adding, “My parents gave me full liberty and support.

However the engineers, specially these twenty say that the key to their exceptional source is the tough regime and math and logic heavy curriculum of engineering colleges. The pressure they have to perform and maintain their grades in colleges is what propels them to study for the CAT and give it all they have. In fact, preparing for CAT and vice versa is what helps them secure a cent percentile.

Another thing that plays in their favour is that JEE which is also a very rigorous test. If not similar to the Common Admission in format, the amount of pressure that these individuals are accustomed to is not less, if not more. Preparation for the JEE helps them have an upper hand in CAT. The rigorous schedule and the experience of the grind make engineering students much more eligible to attain stupendously higher percentiles.
