Last year saw almost 2.2 lakh students enroll for the CAT. It marked a six-year high in the number of applicants for the test that can get you admitted into the prestigious IIMs and other renowned B Schools in the country. CAT is back and clearly with a bang for the year 2016.
Some felt that the Common Aptitude Test conducted by one of the IIMs every year was losing its appeal and overall sheen since the last few years. But the test that was increased to the duration of 180 minutes last year also seems to have enhanced its reach amongst management hopefuls. And it’s back this year in November 2016.
What does the CAT do for you?
For starters, it’s considered to be the most respected test for management candidates because it is conducted by one of the IIMs. It tests you on various skill sets like quantitative ability, verbal ability, logical reasoning and data interpretation.

Registration for CAT 2016
If you want to pursue management programs at IIMs and some of the other top institutes, then you need to take the CAT. The registration process for CAT 2016 will begin on 6th of August and end on 25th September. CAT notification release date for this year is 26th July.
As an interested candidate you can enroll for CAT 2016 through any online medium on the official website www.iimcat.ac. After the last date of registration, candidates are given one of their preferred centres. The admit card will be given from 15th October 2016 till the date of examination.
CAT Dateline 2016
CAT 2016, which can change the fortunes of many management hopefuls, has been scheduled for 29th of November. It can be the make or break day for candidates unless of course you count the day of the results, which will be somewhere in the second week of January 2017.
While we are talking numbers, let’s also look at the registration fees for CAT 2016. It is Rs. 1600 for General, NC / OBC category candidates while SC / ST / Persons with Disability will have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 800.
From the last year, the duration of CAT has been increased from 170 to 180 minutes. Clearly it’s a test where every minute counts, and so do these important dates that you could do well making a note of at the earliest.
