GMAT - Critical Reasoning - Strengthen the argument

The statements above, if true, most strongly support which one of the following?

Technological improvements will enable food production to increase as populations increase. However, increases in food production will be negligible unless societies become more centralized so that all factors contributing to the production of food can be better coordinated. But, historically, the more centralized a society was, the greater the percentage of its people who perished if and when it collapsed. Thus, increasing the centralization of societies in an effort to increase food production via better technology will merely exacerbate the disasters
associated with societal collapse.

The statements above, if true, most strongly support which one of the following?

(A) The more centralized a society is, the greater its need for increased food production.
(B) Not every problem associated with the collapse of a centralized society would be prevented by technological improvements.
(C) The rate at which the world’s population is growing will continue to increase indefinitely.
(D) The production of food can be increased only by improved technology.
(E) Societies have become more centralized as technology has improved.

The conclusion of the passage is that with an increased centralization among societies to increase food production via better technology, the worst will be the disasters associated with societal collapse. The question asks us to choose an answer choice that is supported by the reasoning stated in the passage.

(A) Incorrect as the passage says that a centralized society will enable food production efforts to be better coordinated. It does not say that the need for food will increase.
(B) Correct answer choice as we see in the last few lines of the passage that technology will perhaps better food production, but it will also create other disasters which will lead to societal collapse. And this collapse will not be improved by technological improvements.
(C) Nowhere in the passage do we find evidence for this claim.
(D) Incorrect as the passage states that technology will help coordinate food production better and not that no food will be produced without it.
(E) Incorrect as there is no evidence to support this.
