CAT Notification 2016 – Everything You Should Know

CAT or Common Admission Test is the most coveted exam for MBA aspirants in India. It is imperative to pass this test to gain admission in the top-ranked Indian B-schools including the prestigious IIMs. It will be conducted on 4th December 2016 in two sessions on the same day. No significant change has been made in the test pattern.

Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2016:

To be eligible for taking this test, aspirants must be graduates passed with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. Students from the reserved categories are given a relaxation of having 45% marks from a government recognized institution or university. Those students can also apply who are currently pursuing graduation final year and are awaiting their final results.

Application Fees for CAT 2016:

The application fee for general category and OBC/NC students is INR 1700 while for ST/SC and Persons with Disability, it is INR 850.

Process to Apply for CAT 2016:

The online registrations for CAT 2016 will commence in August 2016 and last till September 2016. The eligible candidates can apply through the Official CAT Website by IIM. On its home page, there is a separate link for CAT exam registration. Candidates must provide all the mandatory information required therein. Here, you also have to select three preferred cities from the list provided on the page. One of these cities will be allotted as your exam center.

Now, you have to pay the required fee and submit the application. Keep a printed copy of this filled form for future references. The admit card can be downloaded from this same website from October 2016 till the date of exam.

Exam Pattern for CAT 2016:

The pattern of CAT 2016 will be same as it was in the year 2015. There will be 3 sections as below:

  1. Verbal and Reading Comprehension: 34 questions/ 60 minutes.
  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: 32 questions/ 60 minutes
  3. Quantitative Aptitude: 34 questions/ 60 minutes.

You cannot switch between any of these sections. Hence, use your time judiciously. The paper will also have Type-in-the-Answer (TITA) questions as featured in CAT 2015. You must pay extra attention solving these questions as they have no negative scoring.

Important Dates for CAT 2016:

Registration Dates– 6th August 2016 to 25th September 2016

Admit Cards Availability – 15th October 2016 Onwards

CAT Test Date – 4th December 2016

Result Declaration – Second week of January 2017
