Top 10 Universities in Asia 2020
Published as part of the QS World University Rankings by Region, the QS Asia University Rankings 2020 is comprised of 550 universities, including 68 institutions which are making their first appearance. No other ranking promises as comprehensive an analysis of the top universities in India, mainland China, Singapore, Hong Kong and other top Asian study destinations.
The rankings are compiled using 11 indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, the ratio of faculty to students, and the number of academic citations and research papers connected to the university. You can find out more about the methodology used here.

CUHK has a significant number of inbound student exchange programs which helps the university score the region’s fourth-highest score for the ranking’s inbound exchange indicator. The university also scores highly for its international research network.
9. KAIST – Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a public university with a student population exceeding 10,000. KAIST has fallen one place in this year’s ranking but continues to achieve a notable score for its academic reputation.
8. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) follows up ranking 32nd in the QS World University Rankings 2020 with an impressive performance in this year’s Asia rankings. An international research university dedicated to education and research, it achieves an extremely high research output.

Fudan University is one of mainland China’s most prestigious institutions, producing a number of prominent alumni, including the World Bank’s director, Zhang Shengman. Unsurprisingly, it achieves a very respectable reputation among both academics and employers.

One of the oldest academic institutions in mainland China, Zhejiang University (ZJU) has partnerships with more than 180 institutions in more than 30 countries worldwide, ensuring it enjoys strong connections internationally.

Peking University can trace its origins back to 1898 and has evolved over years to be one of the region’s top universities, home to stunning architecture and vast campus grounds. It is the most highly regarded university in Asia with employers.

Tsinghua University is well-regarded across the world for its engineering and computer science programs, and is the highest-ranked university from mainland China in this year’s regional rankings. It also performed well in the QS World University Rankings 2020, ranking 16th in the world.
3. The University of Hong Kong
Location: Hong Kong (SAR)
The University of Hong Kong is Hong Kong’s oldest tertiary institution, with a history that goes back over 100 years. The institution also performed well in the world rankings this year, ranked joint 25th, and placed ninth in the Graduate Employability Rankings 2020.
2. Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
Location: Singapore
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has climbed one place this year to now be the second-best university in Asia. One of Singapore’s youngest universities, it has nevertheless quickly established itself as a top study destination, rivalling the National University of Singapore (which you can read more about below).
