GMAT Trivia 1: It really doesn’t test your genius
General Management Admission Council (GMAC) will be the first one to admit that the test does not measure any particular skill, business knowledge and certainly not your intelligence. It assesses your analytical writing, problem solving abilities while addressing logic, data sufficiency and critical reasoning skills. Hurray; not doing well at the GMAT doesn’t make anyone a dumbo!

GMAT Trivia 2: How it all started?
It all began in 1953 when nine management schools got together with the ETS to create a test that would become the GMAT in the future. Harvard, Columbia, Rutgers, Northwestern, Chicago, Michigan, Washington University (St. Louis), Seton Hall and University of Pennsylvania were the universities. Admission Test for Graduate Study in Business, which they had created, became the GMAT in 1976.

GMAT Trivia 3: How it grows?
In its first year, the test was taken 2000 times. Over the course of six decades its numbers have risen dramatically and today it’s taken more than 230,000 times every year. It was initially used for admissions by 54 schools but today more than 2,100 schools all over the world use it for admissions to over 5,900 programs.
GMAT Trivia 4: Global presence
In keeping with the changing times, GMAT was computerized in 1997. US, Canada, England, France and India were the first countries to offer the test in its original format. But in present times, the Computer Adaptive Test is available in 113 countries. Aspirants can take the GMAT in all continents, except Antarctica.
GMAT Trivia 5: Security
Given the importance of the test for many candidates, it wasn’t uncommon to see proxy test takers. To change that, several measures have been taken including taking your picture at the test centre, which is made available to the schools. GMAT was also the first standardized test to use palm vein readers. They analyze specific hand vein patterns for security. When they said, your future is in your own hands, they weren’t kidding.
General trivia
According to reports, 60% of GMAT takers are male while 40% are female. It has also been seen that on an average Physics undergrad majors score the highest (600+) and Education undergrad majors score the lowest (480+).
