The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer-adaptive test conducted throughout the year as a pre-requisite for applying to Management courses across the world. The test duration is 3 hour and 30 mins. The GMAT is divided into 4 sections:
- Verbal Section
- Quantitative Section
- Integrated Reasoning section
- Analytical Writing Assessment section
The verbal sections is further divided into: Reading Comprehension (RC), Sentence Correction(SC) and Critical Reasoning (CR). The verbal section will have a total of 41 questions which must be answered in 75 minutes.
Sentence correction is a question type on the GMAT that tests you on grammar and understanding meaning of texts. You can expect about 1-15 SC questions.
What else you can do inside qs leap ?
In SC you will be given a text and a part of this text will be underlined. You will be given 5 answer choices to replace the underlined part of the text. You must choose one option among the five choices.
The first option is always the same as the underlined portion of the text. You will select this answer choice if you think that the original structure of the sentence is correct in meaning and in grammar. The other four answer choices will have different wordings and grammatical structure, you must choose the best option, which when used forms a grammatically correct and meaningful sentence. There may be cases wherein you may think that there is more than one answer choice that is grammatically correct. In such a case, you must look for an option that conveys the meaning of the text in the most clear and precise manner.
The grammatical concepts that you will be tested on the sentence correction will cover the following: Modifiers, comparisons, parallel constructions, pronouns, verbs tense, idioms and subject-verb agreement.
An investment in a good grammar book to revise the basic rules of grammar will be very helpful to approach this question type.
An SC question looks like this:
