For those of you interested in statistics, the GMAT scores are predicted based on a multiple linear regression equation. The GRE score is used as the predictor (independent) variable while the GMAT score is used as the predicted (dependent) variable. The equation to predict GMAT score is:

GMAT Score = -2080.75 + 6.38*GRE Verbal Score + 10.62*GRE Quant Score

The correlation of the two scores based on the above equation is 0.916 which is pretty healthy.

While the table and formula may be used to compare scores, GRE and GMAT are two very different exams. Hence, the comparison though valid, is not perfect. However, the scores do relate closely to each other and serve as an extremely easy benchmark for comparison.

Another way to compare your score is by checking GRE score percentiles with GMAT score percentiles. Again, it is not the best way to compare performance since the applicant pool on both sides is completely different. So, an 80 percentile score on the GRE isn’t the same as an 80 percentile score on the GMAT. But it serves as a rough indicator of sorts.

Business schools who use both scores might rely on the ETS tool along with their own assessments for score conversion between the applicant pool. You can use the GRE to GMAT score conversion table to gauge your own performance and align your application accordingly.
