JOIN THE "REVOLUTION" IN BUSINESS EDUCATION
For more than 100 years, business schools around the world have been teaching with some variant of the case method. This approach focuses on teaching students to identify patterns in past problems that can be applied to future challenges. This made sense in simpler, more certain times. But what if the problems of the future bear no resemblance to the problems of the past?
The inability of the current model of business education to produce "future-ready" graduates has prompted the ANU Research School of Management to propose a revolutionary new approach to business education.
Director of the ANU Research School of Management, Professor Byron Keating, contends that it is not enough to give students the knowledge to solve today's problems. He asserts that "we need to give the skills to respond to tomorrow's challenges... whatever they look like."
Working with the International Center for Evidence-Based Management in the Netherlands, the ANU Research School of Management launches the world’s first suite of evidence-based graduate business programs in 2017.
Professor Keating explains that this is a completely new approach to business education. "Our school has re-designed our programs to equip students with the skills to identify, evaluate and apply the best available evidence to inform more effective decision making."
The business environment is changing, and Professor Keating argues that the way we educate our future business leaders needs to respond. “We need to train students to become critical and analytical thinkers that can extract insight from the data and information that surrounds them, and then apply this insight to have a positive impact on the world around them.”
